Romania made history through its presence with a national pavilion at Web Summit Lisbon 2023, the most important technology event in Europe. It is a meeting place for companies, startups, investors, industry experts and technology enthusiasts, providing a platform to socialize, exchange ideas and explore the latest technologies.
The 2023 edition saw notable representation from Romania, marking its debut participation in the national pavilion at this event, organized by ARIES-TM (the Romanian Association for the Electronics and Software Industry, Timișoara branch) and supported by ARICE (the Romanian Agency for Investments and Foreign Trade).
The Web Summit gathered 70,236 participants from 153 countries at the Altice Arena in Lisbon, where they discussed and debated ideas for the future. An impressive number of 2,608 exhibiting startups presented their business ideas to 900 investors, while 321 partners explored business opportunities. 806 world-class speakers animated debates about the future of the industry on 16 stages, covering 27 panels. In addition, there were 1,180 meetings between investors and startups, 17 rounds of PITCH competitions and 25 evening events in various interesting neighborhoods of the city.
With an impressive achievement, Kinderpedia, the complete school management and communication solution developed in Romania, recognized internationally for innovation and social impact, has reached the finals of the PITCH competition at Web Summit 2023. In a remarkable triumph, Kinderpedia took first place in the public vote, benefiting from the support of 54% of those who voted. The PITCH competition, which brings together the most promising startups globally for a live showdown on stage at the Web Summit, included 105 of the 2,608 startups present at this year’s event. This three-day showdown culminated in Kinderpedia being recognized as the crowd favorite.

During the Web Summit event, parallel events were organized in which Romanians had the opportunity to participate, such as: the reception organized by the Romanian Embassy in Portugal, PowerBreakfast on Softlanding in Portugal & Iberia with Romanian specialists established in Portugal and PowerLunch on Investment Readiness with Indico Capital Partners, EU.VC & STARTUP LISBOA, the two events being organized by Techcelerator.
