On September 30, 2025, Timișoara welcomed the inaugural Cities Summit, an international event that brought together local leaders, EU officials, ambassadors, and analysts from over 15 countries to discuss EU enlargement, security, and prosperity.
A closed session for mayors from EU member states and candidate countries took place during the summit, concluding with a joint declaration promoting cooperation among European cities.
At the Timișoara Cities Summit, a roundtable was held featuring the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, along with leading representatives from the local business and innovation sectors. The discussions aimed to strengthen partnerships that support innovation, investment, and the city’s economic development.
Daniel Giurea, President of ARIES-TM, was also among the participants and highlighted the importance of helping companies expand internationally and promote exports in the technology sector. He emphasized the need to actively support companies entering global markets and to boost the visibility of the local IT industry.
President Nicușor Dan announced that he will keep supporting initiatives and associations that play a role in Romania’s economic and innovative progress.
The conversations emphasized the dynamic and diverse nature of the local economy, driven by innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. Attendees pointed out the importance of reducing bureaucratic hurdles, enhancing partnerships among authorities, industry, and academia, and creating an ambitious national strategy in critical fields including AI, health, education, and digital transformation.
Through this summit, Timișoara reaffirms its position as a leader in innovation and development, demonstrating that effective public policies with real impact require cooperation and a common vision.
