At the invitation of Timișoara Mayor Dominic Fritz, UPT Rector Florin Drăgan met with Romanian Government ministers, Senator Sorin Șipoș, and UPT Senate President Liviu Cădariu-Brăiloiu on September 20, 2025, to explore opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and industry, focusing on future economic and technological challenges.
The purpose of the meeting was to explore ways in which academia, government, and industry can collaborate in light of current economic and technological challenges.
During a period of major geopolitical and economic transformation, technical universities play a key role in shaping future experts and fostering innovation for both society and the business world.
Key topics addressed included modernizing study programs to meet market demands; introducing a new aerospace bachelor’s program centered on drones and applied aeronautics; promoting research and innovation in satellite communications; fostering IPCEI initiatives and academic-industry partnerships; and reinforcing engineering and industry as cornerstones of Romania’s economic growth.
The meeting highlighted the need to enhance collaboration among universities, industry, and state institutions to ensure Romania’s sustainable and competitive progress internationally.
